Team for Southampton?
Tricky one this time out. Do you play our best 11 available or do we rest our key players for Saturday?

For me, the hunt for Europe is over and can see us finishing 8th, 7/8 points behind 7th place.

The FA Cup should be our target this year, with this in mind, I'll go for:

Adrian

JOB - Tomkins - Oxford - Cresswell

Jarvis - Poyet - Noble - Nolan

Cole - Lee

Surely Morgan gets a start anyhow ?

Re: Team for Southampton?
The Hammers will still be without defenders James Collins and Winston Reid who missed Sunday's draw with Manchester United. Likewise, Diego Poyet and Doneil Henry are also likely to miss out.

Captain Kevin Nolan faces a race against time to overcome a foot injury sustained against Manchester United.

England international Andy Carroll faces a late fitness test to determine whether is able to feature or not.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce says Andy Carroll is "touch and go" to return from a knee injury, while Kevin Nolan could miss out with a foot problem.

James Tomkins is available despite breaking his nose on Sunday as Winston Reid and James Collins remain absent.

Damn it Alf, bringing around terrible news like that.

Bad news lads, Nolan is highly doubtful with a bruised instep that has ballooned up to match his body ;-)

Without our leader, is it worth turning up ?

If Reid, Collins and Carroll are still out we should go with the same team as the Man United game, apart from Morgan in for Nolan.

So Big Sam has confirmed that Reid and Collins will not make tomorrow's game...the only player out of the injured bunch who might make it is Carroll...but personally, I'd rather leave him to get match fit and let Sakho and Valencia team up again...its a great partnership that blossomed so well at the beginning of the season. Plus it looked really good against United...hope Sam keeps with them two. Kouyate was great at the back, so no worries there with our lack of defenders.

Why were we so badly beaten at home? What could we now differently?

Re: Team for Southampton?
Tough call.

It's not as simple as saying 'best team' as levels undoubtedly drop playing 3 games in 6 days. Playing the best team yesterday and Wednesday will most likely mean the best team isn't available for Saturday.

I also don't think it's correct to say we went on a bad run after Chelsea. We lost to Arsenal, a game we played well in and could have got a result from but for a poor bit of refereeing. WBA was a poor performance, but the draws away at Swansea and Everton were most certainly not.

Rotation during busy periods is a factor of football management - us fans might think we know best but we aren't on the training ground every day.

That said, Hearney's team is far too weak IMO. We are still in a good position in the league and should be aiming for a top 8 finish at least.

If Carroll is out until Saturday then I'd go with Valencia and Sakho on Wednesday. Other than that I don't know.

Song with ice pack on his knees after the game... If he can play then fine but if it an saints or baggies then we are going to have to rest him
